That tricky/r/!!! Sometimes we might try 10 differ That tricky/r/!!! Sometimes we might try 10 different cues before we get it but the moment that kiddos say that sound they have been working so hard on and feel successful is what we live for as SLPs! Here are 3 super quick tips for /r/:

1) practice talking about their articulators and build awareness of volitional movements. You can do things like labeling the mouth, building awareness of tongue tension by talking about a tight vs. floppy tongue and practicing movement of the tongue with jaw stabilization (practice elevation and retraction) to name a few ideas

2) practice using facilitative contexts to help their tongue start in a position that is easiest for them to make that sound (use your assessment to identify which contexts are most facilitative for them)

3) rename that sound! Sometimes our kiddos have that old motor plan for /r/ so deeply engrained that changing the name of the sound helps the newly taught pattern to stick!
